DETROIT LIONS SIGN RB MORRIS AND CB KING

February 28, Allen Park, Michigan. - The Detroit Lions have signed running back Maurice Morris to a three-year deal and 2-year contract for corner back Eric King.

Morris rushed for 574 yards and caught 19 passes for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns for Seattle in 2008 while King spent the last three seasons with Tennessee and was placed on injured reserve in November.

Feb 28, 2009, Houston - The Houston Texans have signed free agent Defensive End Antonio Smith who appeared in each regular season game that started three of four playoff games for the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals last season.

The Texans who announced the deal Saturday, needed someone to start opposite 2006 top overall pick Mario Williams after releasing Anthony Weaver earlier this week. Weaver had one sack in his 3 years in Houston of which the Texans need a pass-rush threat at the second end position.

The 6'4- 285 pounds, Smith had 41 tackles and 31/2 sacks this season, 125 tackles and 14 1/2 sacks for 5 years.

Saturday, February 28 - Jones, a former Titan, agreed to have a five-year, $16.5 million deal, with $5.4 million in guaranteed money after the San Francisco 49ers took steps to fill the position of retiring free agent Bryant Johnson and Issac Bruce, Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reported.

In 2005, Jones, starting seven, appeared in 16 games last season and caught 41 passes for 449 yards, both career highs.

NASA GLOBAL WARMING SATELLITE FAILS

NASA's first satellite, Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO) of 972-pound (441 kilogram) which was designed to monitor carbon dioxide emissions with unprecedented accuracy
failed to reach the orbit and crashed into the Indian Ocean near Antarctica after launched Tuesday.

The satellite carried a single three-channel spectrometer to make its detailed measurements and was slated to launch into a near-polar, sun-synchronous orbit that would fly about 438 miles (705 kilometers) above the Earth.

NASA's Associate Administrator for Science was dismayed of the incident said: "To say that it's extremely disappointing would be an understatement. This was a really important science mission."

The Orbiting Carbon Observatory which was built by Dulles-based Orbital Sciences Corp and Orbital was launched Tuesday from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on a Taurus XL rocket. While on its way to join of Five Earth-observing satellites known as A-Train blazed towards the space.

NASA Spokesman Steve Code, who witnessed the launch said "The mission is off to a great start!"

Weiler said the caused of the crash appeared that the protective nose cone, known as the fairing, failed to separate from the satellite. The extra masses still clinging to the satellite loss the energy of the rocket to boost into orbit which made the rocket fell back to the Earth and slammed into the ocean.

MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT AS OF TODAY $145 MILLION

Atlanta - Another roll over of the grand prize of Mega Millions Lottery to $145 Million as of this date. The roll over occurred because no player matched all the winning numbers last Friday night's drawing. The next Mega Millions drawing will be on Tuesday night.

Friday, February 20 - Tickets for the 2010 World Cup is now on sale on the Internet and in any bank branches around South Africa. Out of a total of just over 3 million, some 700,000 tickets are now available for purchase for the 64 games between June 11-July 11 next year to be held in Africa. Fans have until the end of March to apply for tickets before going into a random draw lottery in April to determine the successful applicants. Organizing Chief Executive Officer Danny Jordaan said that "the beginning of this part of the build-up to the World Cup is our irrevocable promise that we make to the people of the world that all is in place and will be ready for 2010."

Jordaan added that people had been queuing up at the banks to get an application forms. We are very happy with the response we have had, it seems there is huge of interest."

"All the applicants who correctly apply for tickets between 20 February and 31 March 2009 will have an equal opportunity of obtaining the tickets for which they have applied."

Tickets prices range from US$20 to US$900, a drastic increase in the standard US$1.50 to US$2.50 supporters pay for entry to South African premier league matches.

Again, NASA postponed its first space shuttle launch of the year for a fourth time on Friday which failed to resolve concerns about potential problem with fuel pressurization valves. The Shuttle discovery has been scheduled to lift off on February 27 for a 14-day flight to outfit the International Space Station with a final set of solar wings panels. The flight, has already been delayed three times due to safety reviews that involves three small valves in the shuttle's rear engine that are needed to keep the external fuel tank properly pressurized during the 8.5 minute climb into the orbit.

In its shuttle mission last November, a tiny piece of one valve has been cracked however, there was not danger to the shuttle or its crew, but the U.S. space agency wants to be sure of its safety and of different outcome.

Friday, February 20 - The governing body of the Women Tennis Association (WTA) fined the Dubai Championship in the amount of $300,000.00 after barring top Israeli tennis player, Shahar Peer to take part of this week event.

WTA stated that the fine was the largest levied against a WTA Tour Member and Peer would be awarded $44,250, the average money she earned per tournament in 2008.

Larry Scot, WTA Chief said that "the actions taken today are intended to redress the wrongs suffered by Shahar Peer, who was a victim of unjust policy of discrimination by the UAE. These actions are also intended to send a clear message that our Tour will not tolerate discrimination of any kind and that we will never allow this situation to happen again in the UAE or elsewhere," Scott added.

Peer had to forfeit her place in the lucrative $2 million tournament after the United Arab Emirates, which has no diplomatic ties with Israel, denied Peer's entry into the country.

The UAE was forced on Thursday to change its policy of barring Israeli athletes from competing in the Gulf state after receiving a global condemnation.

The United Arab Emirates, like most Arab countries, has no diplomatic ties with Israel and routinely denies entry to its citizens.

Tensions was also heightened after the three-week Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip, which killed 1,300 Palestinians and 14 Israelis. Although the conflict was ended in January however, it caused deep anger around the Arab and Muslim countries.

FLYING CAR READY FOR ITS FIRST TEST

Former NASA Engineers who have finally designed this new vehicle claim their invention might be the long-awaited dream come true about a flying car.

Terrafugia Transition is the name of the first flying car with wings that fold up automatically, at a push of a button from the cockpit and the entire process of it turning from a two-seat care into a flying craft lasts 15 seconds according to British Daily Mail. The flying test is scheduled this month, February, and if passes, it is expected to be released on the market in 18 months.

So far, 40 vehicles have been ordered already. According to Carl Dietrich, Head of Terrafugia, this is the first really integrated design where the wings fold up automatically and all the parts are in one vehicle.

The vehicle is powered by a 100 brake horsepower engine and the manufacturer claims one tank of petrol for its use at the cost of 132,000 pounds, same price of Bentley or Ferrari.

The eternal dream for million of drivers trapped in traffic jams will finally come true. May I could also buy this car... hehehe...

HOT CHICKS DEFAMATION SUIT was dismissed by Judge Menelaos Toskos last Wednesday, February 10 of Bergen County, NJ. The Defamation lawsuit was filed by three N.J. Hot Chicks, Yvette Gorzelany, Joanna Obiedzinski and Paulina Pakos who have been allegedly photographed while clubbing in Clifton, New Jersey against Author and Great American Jay Louis last year over their appearance in the "Douchebags" book.

Judge Menelaos Toskos said in the February 6 ruling that the 2008 book was obviously meant for satirical purposes and that no reader should take the novels' content seriously.

"How can a person reasonably believe that in 1981 archaeologist Renee Emile Bellaqua uncovered in a cave in Gali Israel a highly controversial Third Century religious scroll suggesting that the "douchey/hotty" coupling was a troublesome facet in early social religious structures?" Toskos said in the ruling.

SUPER BOWL 2009 RESULTS

Florida, February 1 - Welcome Super Bowl 2009 at Raymund James Stadium, Tampa Bay, Florida. It has been 8 years since Super Bowl was held in Tampa and its the best location for the game. Super Bowl 2009 is also known as Super Bowl 43 were played by Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals. Steelers won the game against the Cardinals.

Down 23-20 in the final minutes of Super Bowl XLIII ( the first the Arizona Cardinals had the lead), Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Holmes made an amazing touchdown receptiion over three Cardinals defenders with 35 seconds left to play the game. During the play Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger froze the defense with a pump fake and later found Holmes in the corner of the end zone.

Las Vegas, January 31 - The long awaited rematch between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and Lightweight Champion BJ Penn finally comes. This is the biggest fight between the two that ends at the MGM Main Graden Arena after their first fight in 2006.

This was a sweet victory for Georges St. Pierre who had scored a closed split decision win over Penn during their first fight in 2006 who delivered a Master Class, shutting down BJ Penn before forcing the stoppage at the end of the fourth round.

St. Pierre said, "the last time I won by decision". "I really wanted to take him out and I'm glad I did it."

The left jab of St. Pierre, which was his primary weapon begins in round four that landed to Penn causing him to took to the mat and landed in side control where punches of St. Pierre started to rain down. Penn was unable to get out of the way of St. Pierre's blows that ends Penn to fight back.

Penn could no longer fight for a fifth round so, he was wisely kept by his Octagonside physician William Berliner and his own cornermen.

The scores at the end of the stoppage were 40-35 and 40-34 twice for St. Pierre,who improves to 18-2.
