Beijing (Aug 5) - Sunday, typhoon Morakot (emerald) in Thai, devastated the entire east coast of China carrying heavy rain and winds of 74 miles or 119 kilometers per hour, China Meteorological Administration said.

Nearly 1 million residents evacuated from their place and several were missing. So far, 31 were missing, 4 confirmed dead and some were buried.

Rescuers were still on their rescue operation while government officials including volunteers were providing shelter, food and relief goods to the evacuees.

Affected areas Zhejiang province with 490,000 evacuees while 505,000 in the neighboring are of Fujian.

Domestic flights were canceled and suspended.

Typhoon Morakot was the first powerful typhoon that lambasted China in 50 years. Hundreds of houses and buildings collapsed, some residents were buried while a large acre of farmland was destroyed by the flood.
